Severn Valley Region Targets £20,000 for Bristol Neurological Charity

A Bristol charity which has enhanced the lives of people living with chronic neurological conditions for more than 40 years is celebrating after being chosen as ‘Charity of the Year’ by Wain Homes' Severn Valley region.

The Brightwell, situated on Wheatfield Drive, Bradley Stoke offers a diverse range of specialised therapies for people living with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke, Parkinson’s, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Concussion, Motor Neurone Disease, Functional Neurological Disorders, Long Covid and Cancer.

The charity helped nearly 500 people from across the West of England with neurological conditions last year.

Wain Homes Severn Valley has set a fundraising target of £20,000 for The Brightwell this year with a team of Wain Homes employees spending a day volunteering at the charity as part of the company’s Helping Hands initiative to launch the partnership.

‘Helping Hands’ sees every employee of Wain Homes being given paid time out of the business to volunteer their support for local charities and good causes.

Carl Haley, managing director of Wain Homes Severn Valley, said: “The impact of what The Brightwell does for the physical health and mental wellbeing of people in the South West and Severn Valley is immeasurable and as a housebuilder which puts people and communities at the heart of everything we do, it makes us proud to support this charity for 2024.

“I have no doubt our team will be involved wherever possible to make this as successful as they can for The Brightwell and we’re looking forward to some exciting and rewarding fundraising events.”

The team of eight Wain Homes volunteers spent their Helping Hands day tidying and landscaping the charity’s garden and planted new plants generously donated by Wain’s landscaping partner, New Wave Landscaping.

Victoria Hocquard from The Brightwell, said: “We are honoured to have been chosen to work in partnership with such a forward-thinking and community-minded company as Wain Homes.

“Representatives from Wain Homes recently visited the Centre to see for themselves our extensive facilities and learn about the vital gap in provision which the Brightwell fills for people living with neurological conditions.

“The team did a great job of getting in the garden and despite the chilly weather, the grounds are really coming to life. The hard-working team brought loads of new plants adding much needed colour and variety to enhance our service users’ experience.”

Wain Homes Severn Valley currently has 13 live or coming soon developments of new homes across Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, including Mulgrove Farm Village situated just a few minutes away from The Brightwell. The housebuilder recently celebrated being awarded the coveted Five-Star Builder status by the Home Builders Federation, based on customer recommendations.
